It is often said that “August is like the Sunday of summer” and although there are still plenty of races to take part in, I have to agree that it’s time to start thinking about fall training!
As a Swim Smooth Certified coach, each squad session will be unique and have a very specific focus with of course a continued emphasis on fun, fitness and friendship! Sessions will begin the week of September 18th. There will be a PAYG (Pay As You Go) option offering some weekly flexibility on class attendance (provided there is space) as well as the option to register for a specific session(s) for the Sept – Dec term to guarantee your spot each week. Note: Class types are subject to change based on demand but here is what is tentatively planned:
- Mondays 7:30-8:30pm Pure Technique Session
- Tuesdays 8:00 -9:00pm CSS Development / Aerobic Endurance (Alternates weekly)
- Thursdays 7:00 – 8:00pm CSS Development / Aerobic Endurance (Alternates weekly)
- Fridays 6:00 – 7:30pm Red Mist Session
- Fridays 6:00 – 7:00 pm Technique / Endurance
- Fridays 7:00 – 8:00pm Technique / Endurance
Pure Technique: The emphasis here is on drill and technique work with plenty of recovery and tips on how to refine your individual stroke.
You can expect feedback during this session on how to properly perform the drills and also receive tips on your stroke.
CSS / Threshold: If you want to improve your speed in distances greater than 400m, then this is the place to start. These sessions are challenging and are tailored to your own CSS pace (the 100m pace you can hold for 1500m). We do specific fitness testing every 6-8 weeks to monitor your CSS pace and progress. There will be some drill work and speed work, but the majority of the session is focused on you maintaining your speed as your stroke inevitably starts to breakdown.
You can expect feedback during this session on how well you are holding pace and motivation to keep pushing when things get tough.
Aerobic Endurance: These sessions alternate weekly with CSS development sessions allowing you to work on holding technique over long periods of time. In these sessions you can put drill focuses into practice.
You can expect some drill work, longer intervals and feedback on your stroke during these sessions.
Red Mist: The infamous Swim Smooth “Red Mist” session is the hardest and longest session of the week. This 90 minute swim is the cornerstone of the Ironman and 70.3 crew given how good it is at preparing you for these distances. Can you hold off the “Red Mist” from descending on you when you’re not feeling your best?
You can expect feedback during this session on how well you are sticking to your targets and an excited coach urging you on under pressure to add to the sense of stress. Note – we will be ‘easing’ into these sessions in the fall as it is off season!
Once again, LYNX Triathlon has secured Wed nights with The Doctrine to have a LYNX only computrainer class geared towards triathletes of all abilities. Classes will resume in October, on Wed nights at 7pm. Space is limited to 15 people and there isn’t a drop in option for these sessions.
There will be an all ability, 1 hour weekly indoor track session. Day and time still to be confirmed. Also, there will be a morning group run. Day and time to be confirmed.
In addition to group training, LYNX also offers coached training plans as well as the option to customize and combine group training with a coached training plan.
