Another great weekend of fun events!
Saturday saw the return of the Chinook Triathlon to Calgary at Lake Mindapore. There were many familiar faces on course and several LYNX and ‘friends of LYNX’ athletes that took part in the Olympic event. Also of note, after costs, 100% of funds collected for this race were given back the Calgary Triathlon Community by race director Mike Bock. All feedback was positive for this event – perhaps it should be a LYNX club event in 2018?
- A few Ironman bound athletes used the day as a practice race to put everything together. While focusing on ‘the process’ of racing, Coach Karleen ended up having a super outing and ended up 2nd in her age group. Nice outcome Karleen, Congrats!
- Steph and Connor completed their first triathlon ever at Chinook and are looking forward to their target race next weekend – IM 70.3 Mont Tremblant! They are racing for Team in Training (TNT) which is an endurance sports training program that raises money for blood cancer. Good luck next week guys! Go Team!
Also on Saturday morning was the Millarville Half Marathon. Coach Steph ran an aid station and had some help from family and friends.
On Sunday the Tri for Evan Triathlon took place. This race supports MitoCanada. LYNX Masters Swim Coordinator and her hubby partnered up to race as a relay. Reports were that the water was warm and although the bike was uphill and into the wind on the way out, it was a pleasant downhill ride with a tailwind on the way back.
Lastly, this morning was the first, of likely more, LYNX organized and supported Big Bricks. 3 athletes did the 86km Calgary 70.3 course and the others did about 1.5x the course and covered just under 135k before running 10k. Great job out there everyone!
Next Sunday (June 25) is the Tri-it Multisport sponsored women’s Wild Rose Triathlon. This beginner friendly event raises money for YWCA Sheriff King Home which shelters women and children so that they can rebuild their lives in a safe environment. I will be volunteering at the event again this year. As a rule of thumb, it’s great to volunteer at 1 race for every 3 you do. If you want to help out and join LYNX next Sunday at the Wild Rose Triathlon or do the race, you can find information here: Wild Rose Triathlon
